Ministry of Finance, on Monday, issued a tender seeking contractors for the development of three schools, to be located in the 'Phase Two' grounds, of reclaimed suburb Hulhumale'.
According to the ministry, the schools are to be developed on under contractor financing.
The finance ministry will open bidding for the projects on September 15 till October 19, with the bid selection to commence on October 20.
The ministry has tendered a bid security of MVR 850,000 for each project.
Earlier in June, Minister of State for Education Ahmed Riyaz confirmed that each school would cater to roughly 1200 students, adding that development of the schools are expected to finish by 2021, and begin operating on 2022.
The social housing 'Hiyaa Project' in Phase Two of Hulhumale', initiated during the former administration of Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, is expected to welcome its first residents within the next eight months.
Housing Development Corporation (HDC) estimates that a minimum of five individuals would reside in each flat, amounting to 100 people on a single floor, 2,400 in every building and total 38,400 in all 16 towers, raising the need for adequate educational facilities on the island.
While the government is planning to transition back towards a single-session schooling system across the country, Minister of Education Dr Aishath Ali highlighted that the development of 10 additional schools were required within the Greater Male' Region for the change to be implemented.
HDC has allocated land plots throughout Phase Two for the development of 14 schools on the island.
