The Criminal Court has postponed the final verdict on two journalists of local television channel Raajje TV, who were arrested for allegedly obstructing police, to January 24.

The verdict on Raajje TV journalists Mohamed Visam and Leevan Ali Nazeer was originally scheduled to be finalised Monday afternoon. Mihaaru understands that following the postponement, the state has proposed a jail sentence of four months and 24 days for the journalists, while their lawyer is pushing for a fine.

The two journalists are charged with obstructing police for attempting to stop policemen from arresting their CEO Hussain Fiyaz, who had been caught trespassing on Maafannu Stadium which the police had closed off last year November to defuse an explosive device discovered near the presidential palace of Muliaage.

The court had also closed the doors on their hearing that was held Monday afternoon.
