The court hearing to announce the final verdict on two journalists of local television channel Raajje TV, who were arrested for allegedly obstructing police, on Monday afternoon will be held behind closed doors.

The decision to close the doors on the hearing was announced after people had submitted their names to observe the trial. The reason for the abrupt decision is unclear.

Raajje TV journalists Mohamed Visam and Leevan Ali Nazeer are charged with obstructing police for attempting to stop policemen from arresting their CEO Hussain Fiyaz, who had been caught trespassing on Maafannu Stadium which the police had closed off last year November to defuse an explosive device discovered near the presidential palace of Muliaage.

Raajje TV’s cameraman Adam Zareer received the same indictment for pushing police barricades in an attempt to enter a restricted area during a protest last year March. His verdict is to be announced coming March 16.

Meanwhile, Visam is facing a second case of obstructing police which is still unclosed.

In addition to the journalists, CEO Fiyaz is undergoing a separate criminal trial for allegedly striking a policeman.
