Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed revealed on Monday that 41 individuals have applied for the four vacancies on the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

The applicant list was announced by the Secretary General and forwarded to the Committee on Independent Institutions for evaluation at the parliamentary sitting held early Monday.

Following the committee's review, the approved members will be finalised via a vote on the parliament floor.

The four slots on the CSC were vacated after the Committee on Independent Institutions voted on June 29 to dismiss the members of the commission except Fathimath Amira.

In the wake of this decision, then-president of CSC Dr Ali Shameem, the vice president Shaheed Mohamed and member Zakariyya Hussain tendered their resignations. Member Ibrahim Shaheeq was dismissed via a parliament vote in July.

Presently, Amira is the only member on the CSC. She is the spouse of the uncle of MP Rozaina Adam, the parliamentary representative for Addu Meedhoo constituency and the current Chair of the Committee on Independent Institutions.
