Maldives Police Service make new appointments for senior positions

Maldives Police Service, on Thursday, appointed new officers to senior positions, within the institution.

According to a statement released by police, Assistant Commissioner of Police Dr Abdul Fairoosh, who was temporarily heading the Central Policing Command amidst the COVID-19 response, was appointed as the head of Resource Management.

Other changes at the police divisions include appointing Assistant Commissioner Ali Rasheed as the head of Divisional Policing Command. Prior to this appointment, Ali Rasheed headed the Resource Management Department.

Police appointed Chief Superintendent Asim Abdulla, who formerly headed the support service established under Divisional Operations Command, as the head of the northern division of Resource Management Department.

Police also announced that Chief Superintendent Abdulla Shareef was appointed as the head of Male' Police. He formerly headed the Northern Division.

Following the disbandment of the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) established to carry out Maldives' COVID-19 response, Assistant Commissioner Ismail Naveen, who assumed the leading role for police in NEOC, was reinstated to his earlier position of Central Command Head with the same responsibilities.

Divisional Policing Command oversees the operations of police in areas of Maldives excluding the Greater Male' area. Police services in capital Male', reclaimed suburb Hulhumale' and Vilimale' are managed by the Central Policing Command.

According to police, the appointments were made in an attempt to achieve the goals set for 2023, under the police strategic plan.
