Maldives Police Service arrested three local men over possession of drugs from Kudahuvadhoo, Dhaalu Atoll and Guraidhoo, Thaa Atoll in two separate operations this week.

Police disclosed that the suspect from Kudahuvadhoo, aged 23, was arrested on Sunday following intelligence reports of drug peddling.

At the time of his arrest from the Kudahuvadhoo harbour, he was in possession of 14 cellophane bags containing substances believed to be drugs.

The two suspects from Guraidhoo, aged 33 and 41, were apprehended on Monday following intelligence reports that they were involved in widespread trade of illegal drugs.

Police revealed that they raided the suspects' residence under a court warrant, and took the men under custody upon finding a 'juice petty' bag filled with suspected drugs.

The two operations were conducted jointly by Police Intelligence and the local police based on the islands.

Authorities confirm that the two cases are not linked. However further investigations are currently underway. Police did not disclose additional information.
