Over 35 percent of consultations agreement-related: AGO

Attorney General's Office disclosed Wednesday that over 35 percent of consultations provided during the first half of 2020 were agreement-related.

Statistics publicised by the AG Office show that it provided a total of 427 consultations for various state institutions between January and the end of June.

The majority were regarding miscellaneous issues with 176 consultations (40 percent), followed by 156 agreement-related consultations (35 percent), and 55 regulations-related consultations (12.8 percent).

The office also provided 30 consultations regarding policies (7 percent), six on treaties (1.4 percent), and four on ratification of bills (1 percent).

The AG Office had received a total of 440 requests from state institutions for consultations within the first six months of the year.

Most recently, the office gave counsel to the Parliamentary Committee on National Security services, commonly known as 241 Committee, on the parliament's draft of the prickly new Police Bill.

In 2019, between January and June, the AG Office provided 502 consultations. A total of 209 consultations (41.6 percent) concerned miscellaneous issues, followed by 170 agreement-related consultations (33.8 percent), and 67 regulations-related consultations (13.3 percent).

AG Office also provided 35 consultations regarding policies (6.9 percent), five on treaties (0.9 percent), and 16 on ratification of bills (3.1 percent) during the first half of 2019.
