President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom called upon the Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak on Thursday.
According to the President’s Office, the president and prime minister rejoiced the close bonds of the two nations and discussed sectors through which their bilateral relations can be further strengthened.
The president was accompanied on this visit by ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s deputy leaders, Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla and Minister of Tourism Moosa Zameer, PPM’s Secretary General and Nilandhoo MP Abdulla Khaleel and the Maldivian Ambassador to Malaysia Mohamed Fahmy Hassan.
President Yameen departed for Malaysia on Tuesday night to take part in the inauguration of the country’s largest and ruling political party United Malays National Organisation (UMNO)’s annual general assembly. The ceremony was held in Putra World Trade Centre in Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.
President Yameen and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim had previously visited Malaysia last May to take part in the PERMATA International Conference under the theme “Children Beyond Tomorrow”. The president had also called upon Prime Minister Najib during that visit.
