Two policemen and one military soldier arrested during a drug bust in capital Male have been remanded for six days, announced Maldives Police Service on Thursday.
Police had conducted a drug bust operation last Monday night and arrested four people, two of whom were Police, one a soldier of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) while the other was a civilian. Further details of those arrested have not been disclosed as it is an ongoing investigation.
According to Police spokesperson, the Criminal Court ordered Police on Wednesday to detain the arrested people in a location indicated by the Ministry of Home Affairs and continue the probe.
The connection between the policemen and soldier with the seized drugs remain unclear. Police is also yet to state the amount of drugs that were seized during the bust.
There have been policemen and soldiers arrested in connection to busts in the past.
The police and Maldives Customs Service have jointly seized over 100 kilograms of drugs between October 2015 and this year October. The success of these operations is being attributed to the police dog squads taken into Police service from 2014 onwards.
