Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Public Service Media (PSM) signed an agreement to create a television channel named “Dheenee Channel” to raise awareness about Islam.

The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed by Islamic Minister Dr Ahmed Ziyad and PSM’s Managing Director Ibrahim Khaleel.

According to the Islamic Ministry, they struck the contract with PSM to establish an easy means through which information on religious matters can be made accessible to the public.

Under the agreement, both a TV channel and a radio channel will be created with the latter stipulated to transmit its signals to the islands close to capital Male in the beginning. The radio channel will work up to transmit all across the archipelago in time over a number of phases. The channels will also live stream the prayer congregations and sermons of some mosques.

Islamic Minister Dr Ahmed Ziyad added that they will work to provide solutions to problems related to religion via the channel, stating that these channels will deliver the clear message of Islam to future generations.
