COVID-19: Ooredoo donates MVR 2.5 million towards government relief efforts

Telecom giant Ooredoo Group and Ooredoo Maldives on Sunday donated MVR 2.5 million to the Maldivian government as relief aid towards national efforts to combat the spread of COVID-19.

According to Ooredoo Maldives' press release, the contribution will assist the government to purchase additional ventilators, personal protective equipment (PPE), and testing supplies.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ooredoo Maldives, Mr Najib Khan formally conveyed the commitment to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in a meeting held via audio conferencing.

Speaking regarding the donation, company’s CEO Khan said, “Ooredoo has always remained a close partner to the people of Maldives, and today we reaffirm our strong commitment towards supporting local communities overcome the challenges being faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic”.

"It is our sincere hope that our contribution will assist the strong actions being taken by the government to limit the human and economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Maldives,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ooredoo has collaborated with government agencies including the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) and the Health Protection Agency (HPA) to support the national response to the pandemic through its connectivity support and digital solutions.

Accordingly, Ooredoo's e-Commerce Marketplace Platform 'Moolee' commenced deliveries of a selection of essential goods in capital Male’ and reclaimed suburb Hulhumale’.

Further, the company introduced extensions on bill payment deadlines and lenient payment plans for its customers facing financial difficulties due to COVID-19.

Ooredoo provides an innovative range of voice, data, broadband, content and enterprise services tailored to the growing needs of today’s consumers and businesses.

Ooredoo Maldives, the local subsidiary of the Qatari-based telecommunications company, is publicly listed on the Maldives Stock Exchange. The company generated a consolidated revenue of over MVR 2 billion, and a net income of MVR 599 million in 2019.
