Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) disclosed Tuesday that all random samples taken from among their staff tested negative for COVID-19.

The company's Marketing and Public Relations Officer Ahmed Azim told local media that authorities took random samples from WAMCO's frontline staff.

"They are the employees involved in collecting waste [from capital Male' City]. Their test results came back negative", he said.

Authorities conducted random sampling among WAMCO's frontline workers before a staff, who work in the company's call centre, tested positive for COVID-19 last Friday.

Following the Health Protection Agency (HPA)'s confirmation of the case, all staff at WAMCO's call centre have been placed under quarantine for 14 days and the office closed down.

The call centre has since been disinfected. Azim stated that the centre will be re-opened as soon as WAMCO receives HPA's authorisation.

WAMCO remains one of the state institutions still in operation amid the ongoing lockdown imposed on the Greater Male' Region since March 15.
