Urban primary healthcare centre 'Dhamana Veshi' in the capital city Male', on Saturday announced that it would recommence administering vaccines as per the National Vaccination Schedule on May 3.

According to Dhamana Veshi, all compulsory vaccines for children under 18 years of age included in the National Vaccination Schedule would be offered after their offices resume services on May 3. Administration of measles-rubella (MR) vaccine and influenza vaccine for adults below 40 years of age would also resume, revealed the healthcare center.

The healthcare centre noted that individuals are required to make prior appointments for the vaccination service by calling 3322403 between 1000 hrs and 1300 hrs from Sunday to Thursday.

Dhamana Veshi requested all guardians finalising appointments for children's vaccines to provide the child's name, current address and date of birth as well as the name and date of last vaccination administered. When booking appointments, individuals will need to disclose whether their residence was placed under monitoring by authorities in relation to a COVID-19 case.

Dhamana Veshi further noted that medication for tapeworms and Vitamin A for children under 5 would be administered on weekdays between 1000 hrs and 1300 hrs.

Guardians must bring their child's vaccination records along with their national identity cards for all appointments.

Vaccination services in the capital were disrupted by a city-wide lockdown implemented following the first confirmed local transmission of COVID-19 in the capital city of Male' on April 15.

The greater Male' region was subsequently placed under lockdown as a precautionary measure to contain the outbreak and allow for feasible contact tracing.

Presently Maldives records 177 positive cases, two probable and 161 active cases of COVID-19, with a total of 16 recoveries.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified the spread of COVID-19 as a global pandemic. The novel coronavirus has infected over 2.92 million people and claimed over 203,270 lives around the world. However, out of those infected, more than 837,000 people have recovered.
