Skipper's motorbike set ablaze after speedboat arrest

Maldives Police Service revealed Friday that a motorcycle belonging to a speedboat captain was set ablaze days after the police arrested a man onboard the vessel.

Police disclosed that they stopped the speedboat, which was en route to Dhiffushi, Kaafu Atoll, from capital Male' on April 12, upon receiving intelligence that drugs were being transported onboard. A 24-year-old Maldivian man was arrested in connection with this case.

Police later received reports that the speedboat skipper's motorcycle was set on fire in the early hours of April 17. A photograph released by the police shows that the vehicle was greatly damaged.

No arrests have been made in connection with the fire yet. The police investigation is currently underway.
