Judicial Service Commission (JSC), on Thursday announced the decision to continue their investigations through online audio and video conferencing.

All government institutions are currently shut down as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country, under the state of public health emergency announced on March 12.

Therefore, most institutions are introducing online services and solutions to continue operations amidst the virus outbreak.

According to a statement by JSC, the commission's investigations will resume after policies are finalised on how to proceed with the investigations by conducting conferences online.

Prior to announcing this decision, JSC, on Thursday, suspended Criminal Court Judge Hassan Najeeb for three months in addition to filing a case against him to Maldives Police Service.

The commission disclosed that these measures were taken as the judge was found to have falsified information in his financial statement.

As the global COVID-19 brings the globe to a halt, institutions are struggling to continue their operations with minimal amount of staff, introducing work-from-home solutions and turning to online services. The Greater Male' area has now been placed under a 14-day lockdown following the first confirmed case of community spread within Male' City.

Maldives now has 28 confirmed and 12 active cases of COVID-19, with a total of 16 recoveries.

The World Health Organization has classified the spread of COVID-19 as a global pandemic. The novel coronavirus has infected over two million people and claimed over 145,521 lives around the world. However, out of those infected, more than 547,295 people have recovered.
