President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom declared that the Maldives is a nation of the youth, hence it will only move forward with the share of youth.

He made the remark while speaking at the function held to commemorate National Youth Day.

In his opening speech, President Yameen mentioned that the Maldives is a lucky country to have a great percentage of the population consisting of youth. He also claimed that his government gives high priority for the development and empowerment of youth. Indicating that his Cabinet also consists of several young ministers, the president said the future also belongs to the youth.

“If today’s majority age group is the youth, the next generation will be all youth. So future development projects should also should cater to them.”

Highlighting some of his pledges, President Yameen said the pledge to create 94,000 jobs will be fulfilled by the end of his tenure as the development and expansion projects of Ibrahim Nasir International Airport will be completed with another 50 resorts also being opened.

During the ceremony, “The Youth Minister’s Special Recognition Award” was awarded to Minister of Finance and Treasury, Ahmed Munawar. Eight other recipients received the national Youth Award from eight different categories.

During her speech, Minister of Youth and Sports Iruthisham Adam said 75 percent of the Youth Manifesto will be accomplished in mid-2017.
