Civil Court decided Monday to hold hearings via audio conference as a precautionary measure against the COVID-19 outbreak.

The new measure was implemented in a move to minimise the number of people presented to the court amidst the spreading of the coronavirus.

In the event any persons are required to be present for hearings, the Civil Court stated that the Chief Judge will discuss the necessary arrangements.

In addition to audio conferences, the court also set up a special email for online case submissions and decided to issue summons via social media, exchange statements via email to relevant sections, and announce verdicts and rulings via email and on its website. The court will also send all letters and documents through GEMS or email.

The Civil Court stated that current working hours are from 0800 hrs to 1800 hrs on calendar days. The court added that arrangements to work from home will be made should such a situation occur.

Meanwhile, the Family Court also decided this week to halt issuing marriage certificates out of court and on public holidays.
