Three test negative for COVID-19: HPA

Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Tuesday announced that three of the latest suspected cases, including one in Foakaidhoo, Shaviyani Atoll and one in capital city Male', tested negative for the COVID-19.

The first confirmed cases of the virus were reported from Kuredu Island Resort and Spa on Saturday. Two additional individuals on the resort tested positive on Monday. Currently, the total number of cases has reached six, including two other positive cases on Sandies Bathala Resort.

Both resorts have now been placed under lockdown. There were 1,389 people on Kuredu Island Resort when it was quarantined following the virus's discovery, including 699 tourists, 270 local staff and 420 expatriate staff. Including the guests at Sandies Bathala resort, there are 824 tourists quarantined in both resorts as well as local and foreign staff.

Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem, on Monday, ordered the police to launch an investigation into the permitted movement of the Italian tourist infected with COVID-19, who holidayed at Kuredu Island Resort and Spa, and was later found to have spent two days in Male' before departing to Italy.

The investigation is intended to determine whether any negligence or misconduct was involved with the initial spread of the virus in Maldives.

Meanwhile, authorities isolated 16 people in Male' who had come into contact with the patient. This includes the individual from Universal ticketing office, who tested negative.
