The Elections Commission (EC), on Saturday, revealed that an individual threatened the commission's members.

As per EC Vice President Ahmed Akram, the threats were made by an individual that arrived at the premises to submit forms related to the upcoming local council election.

Akram expressed concern over the threats and asserted that the elections watchdog would take all possible legal measures against individuals that exhibited such behaviour.

The EC Vice President did not disclose additional details regarding the nature of the threats or the individual's actions.

Highlighting that acts of intimidation endangered societal peace, he expressed guarantees that the commission would facilitate a free and fair election.

Slated for April 4, a total of 980 councilors will be elected in the 2020 local council election. Applications for individuals interested in contesting will remain open until February 20.
