Maldives Police Service on Wednesday, arrested an expatriate worker for allegedly sexually assaulting a 53-year-old woman in a northern atoll.
According to Police, the 28-year-old immigrant reportedly broke into the woman's residence in order to assault her.
The matter was reported to the North Police Division which comprises of the atolls Noonu, Raa, Baa and Lhaviyani.
Police are currently investigating the matter.
Spokesperson and Chief Inspector of Police Izmia Zahir previously stated that while harassment cases were largely discussed on social media, official reports made to the police remain relatively low.
