Maldives Police Service has commenced an investigation over a death threat to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
Police spokesperson confirmed that they are probing a case regarding a threat made to "a person", but did not reveal the person''s identity.
According to Mihaaru's sources, President Yameen was threatened by some citizens of Addu City. The threats were posted on a Facebook page which was open for such criticism. Police took the suspects' statements though no arrests have yet been made.
It is noteworthy that President Yameen has scheduled a formal visit to Addu City in the coming week.
Police had also investigated a threat to blow up state run Indira Ghandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) last week.
