The developmental projects of the Maldives cannot be halted as this might lead the Maldives to be isolated from the rest of the world, declared President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom.

He made the remark while speaking at a rally held in the island of Dhuvaafaru in Raa atoll to celebrate the fifth anniversary of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

Referring to global urbanization, President Yameen said that putting the hasty ongoing projects on hold is not a solution though critics say there is insufficient time.

“We can’t just rely on the speed of an old bear, but we should move forward with the speed of a young deer,” said President Yameen, warning that otherwise, the Maldives might be left behind and hunted.

“We don’t want to be hunted, but rather be the hunter.”

In addition, President Yameen stated that the state budget should be capable enough to run all the projects in order to bring the desired advancement to the nation.

President Yameen added that providing housing and shelter is the utmost important, as the vision of the government is to prevent crimes from taking place rather than punishing criminals. Hence the government's pledge to provide shelter for the youth would bring an end to a lot of social issues.

“You all can imagine what might be going through the youngsters and children when sharing one or two rooms with two or three families. If this is the situation of our households, there will be someone who might take advantage of them,” said President Yameen.

He added that this is the reason for building several parks in Male.

President Yameen also received the membership forms of the newest individuals to join PPM during the rally.
