Police investigate sexual abuse of 2-year-old

Maldives Police Service are investigating the sexual abuse of a two-year-old child in a southern atoll.

According to the police, they received reports of an elderly man sexually assaulting the young girl last Wednesday.

Police stated that no one has been arrested as of yet, but assured that they were investigating the case with utmost seriousness.

They did not disclose the island where the crime occurred in order to protect the identity of the victim.

The latest statistics publicised by Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services show that 75 cases of child abuse were reported last November, out of which 20 involved sexual abuse.
