The opposition coalition, on Saturday, released a statement claiming that state funds and resources were being utilized for campaign purposes by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Jointly issued by the People’s National Congress (PNC) and the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), the statement concerns the Local Council Elections slated for April 4.

Asserting that Parliament Speaker and MDP president Mohamed Nasheed was leading these efforts, the opposition coalition called for an end to the alleged misuse of government funds.

The statement further stated that the incumbent administration's pledges were beyond its ability to fulfill and urged the populace to cast votes for PPM and PNC representatives.
