The Prosecutor General's Office lodged a case at the National Integrity Commission (NIC) concerning the state attempt to deport two expatriates whose passports were confiscated for smuggling drugs.
According to the PG office, the case marks the first instance it requested an investigation into the conduct of a government institution.
Furthermore the PG office asserted that it was closely monitoring the operation of state institutions that oversee the implementation of certain measures.
NIC's mandate includes the investigation of cases within Maldives Immigration, which is tasked with implementation of travel bans.
