President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, the adviser of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), urged his half-brother and the ousted leader of PPM Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom to return back to the Party.

He made the remark while speaking at the mass rally held on October 4 to celebrate the party’s "real" fifth anniversary.

While the political fall-out between the two half-brothers has split PPM into two factions with the court handing over Gayoom's ruling power over the party to President Yameen, Dthe latter declared that the presence of his brother would have made the night even better.

According to the Civil Court's verdict, the former president Gayoom was deprived of party control for violating the party’s charter. His faction of PPM so far maintains they are the "true" PPM and continue party activities at PPM's office office, while President Yameen and his faction are currently using Dharubaaruge convention centre as their activity hub.

“I would like to call upon President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom to come and Join us. To come and guide us on the path,” said President Yameen.

He further said that he came to know about the complications within the party during the Eid-Al-Fitr holidays. “Ever since then I have tried my best to find solutions, however we failed,” said the president.

According to President Yameen, the issue was taken to court when all other measures failed to bring a solution. And the sole purpose of going to court was just to find a way to activate the functioning of the party.
