Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) presented the Tourist Terminal developed in Fishermen's Park, to Male' City Council on Monday.

The handover ceremony took place in the park, where MWSC's Managing Director Adam Azim handed over the terminal to the city council's Mayor Shifa Mohamed.

Developed under MWSC's corporate social responsibility on the request of the city council, the Tourist Terminal features public restrooms, showers, and an information desk for visitors. Tourists will have access to flight schedules, information on guesthouses as well as tour guide services.

According to Mayor Shifa, the terminal will be operated under a business model and will not be financed by the state budget. Noting that fees will be charged from visitors to use the terminal services, the mayor stated that the council is currently in talks with tourism industry experts to determine the rates.

She further stated that the terminal will run on the money it receives under the business model, including salaries for the staff.

"Our plan is to establish guest relations officers in the future", she added, stressing that it will provide a great opportunity for Maldivian youth.

The city council is yet to announce a date to unveil the Tourist Terminal.
