Maldives Police Service confirmed on Monday that a crew member on a fishing vessel drowned while on a bait catching expedition.
Spokesperson for Police stated that the 45-year-old male was swimming back with a buoy that had drifted away when he went limp. He was reportedly foaming at the mouth when the crew hoisted him aboard and was taken to the hospital immediately afterward.
According to police, doctors clarified that the man was dead by the time he was brought to the regional Gaafu Alif Atoll Hospital in Villingili.
The incident was reported to the Police at 1008hrs Monday morning.
Local authorities are currently investigating the matter.
