Maldives Police Service revealed Saturday that 89 issues regarding inebriated individuals on the streets were reported between November 3 and December 7.

Police spokesperson stated that they received reports from across the Greater Male' region, including the capital Male', and suburbs Villimale' and Hulhumale'.

While the police did not disclose additional details, they had earlier stated that a number of inebriated individuals were arrested from the streets and, following investigations, their cases were forwarded to the Prosecutor General's Office for indiction.

An increasing number of videos, depicting individuals that appeared to be in drug-induced stupors on the streets, have been spreading on local social media recently. While the public are raising concerns over the issue, some also alleged that a strong substance must be in circulation.
