Following the airing of interview given in Dhivehi, the local language, to a foreign news outlet by a Maldivian insurgent in Syria, Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla issued a warning against native terrorists on Friday.

Minister Imran's tweet guaranteed that the government will not let slide any act, committed by locals at any part of the world, which compromises the security of Maldives.

"This administration will take every step that is necessary to protect this country from the dangers of terrorism", his tweet read.

According to local media Mihaaru, the insurgent who spoke to 'On the Ground News' operating in Syria stated that he travelled to the war-torn country two years ago to help Muslims in need.

As per the latest amendments brought to the Prevention of Terrorism Act, the entirety of Syria is considered a war-zone and travelling to this country without authorisation from the government is a punishable crime.
