Signed during Parliament's official visit to India, the agreement aims to bolster relations between the legislative bodies and to provide technical training opportunities for secretariat staff of the Maldivian Parliament.

The delegation is visiting India on invitation from the Vice President of India and Chairman of the upper house of the Indian Parliament 'Rajya Sabha' Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, and Speaker of Lok Sabha Shri Om Birla. Nasheed paid a courtesy call on the two political figureheads on Monday afternoon.

Earlier, the 15-members of the Maldivian contingent attended a memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi.

"Gandhiji is undoubtedly the biggest inspiration of everything during our times. Gandhiji's principles, philosophy and actions inspired freedom lovers the world over, in our region and certainly in the Maldives", wrote Nasheed in the guestbook.

The parliamentary delegation includes Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla, MP Ali Azim, MP Hassan Latheef, MP Ilyas Labeeb, MP Hussain Shaheem, MP Mohamed Aslam, MP Abdulla Riyaz, Secretary General of Parliament Fathimath Niusha, and Counsel General Fathimath Filza.
