For the upcoming five years, the education sector will be managed in accordance with an education sector implementation programme under the ESP and ESA as well as the government's Strategic Action Plan (SAP).

The plans were compiled with free aid provided by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE). Following the compilation of the plans, Maldives became the 68th developing country to join the GPE.

Formed in 2002, GPE is a multi-stakeholder partnership and financing platform which seeks to strengthen education systems in developing countries.

United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) serves as the coordinating and granting agency for ESA and ESP.
