Foreign Minister arrives in Baku for NAM Summit

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, on Thursday, arrived in Baku, Azerbaijan, to attend the 18th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), scheduled for Saturday.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, on Thursday, arrived in Baku, Azerbaijan, to attend the 18th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), scheduled for Saturday.

In addition to leading the Maldivian delegation, the Minister will deliver a statement on behalf of the country during the two-day summit.

Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev will host the 18th Summit under the theme 'Upholding the Bandung Principles to ensure concerted and adequate response to the challenges of a contemporary world'.

Prior to Shahid's arrival, Foreign Secretary for Ministry of Foreign Affairs Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed participated in the preparatory meetings leading up to the summit

NAM was formed in 1961and is comprised of 120 member states. Summits are held every three years.
