Foreign Minister inaugurates 3rd SAARC Education Ministers Meeting Maldives

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid inaugurated the third South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Education/ Higher Education Ministers Meeting.

The meeting was held early Thursday at Crossroads Maldives.

While addressing the gathering, Minister stated that education is the most powerful tool in eradicating poverty and that it is also the most effective tool to unleash potential growth and development in a region.

"The current administration in the Maldives places the utmost importance on the provision of education. We believe that education is essential to attain the knowledge and skillsets to fully participate and contribute to the country’s economic and social development".

He also called on member States of SAARC to become more dynamic, more forward-looking and strategic, for the advancement of its people.

The Ministers Meeting will take place from October 9 to 10 at Crossroads Maldives.

The ceremony was attended by members of the cabinet, various Ministers and Ministerial level officials of the Maldivian government and the SAARC Member States and the Secretary-General of SAARC.
