Judicial Service Commission of the Maldives (JSC) on Wednesday initiated investigations into some justices of the Supreme Court.

JSC devised a special committee in the past to investigate verdicts passed down by the Supreme Court outside their stipulated legal bounds. These allegedly unconstitutional and ultra vires rulings were also part of the report into the Justice System of the country compiled by retired Justice of the Constitutional Court of South Africa, Johann Kriegler.

JSC stated that this report was discussed in further detail in the commission's sitting on Wednesday, where it identified justices that were involved in passing those rulings. However, JSC has not yet revealed the details of the judges being investigated.

JSC stated that it will be closely coordinating with relevant committees in the Parliament during the investigation. The commission on Tuesday decided to issue injunctions against three judges of the Supreme Court following previous investigations.
