The government sought assistance from a foreign expert from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to formulate the Civil Procedure Bill.

According to the Attorney General's Office, Senior Lecturer at Northumbria University's Law School Emmanuel Guinchard will assist in compiling the bill and is scheduled to meet relevant stakeholders from the country.

Guinchard, a French citizen, recently travelled to Maldives as part of the effort.

The lecturer's areas of expertise are European Union Law, World Trade Organization Law, Competition Law and International Dispute Resolution.

The Civil Procedure Bill is among the pieces of legislature that the government decided to propose during the tenure of the 19th parliament.

Certain laws currently enacted in Maldives were also compiled with assistance from foreign experts. The Penal Code was compiled with input from American Proffessor Paul H Robinson, a renowned scholar on Criminal Law. Similarly, foreign experts were also involved in the formulation of the Criminal Procedure Code.
