Deputy Managing Director of Island Aviation Services (IAS) Mariyam Jennifer revealed that flights between Hanimaadhoo International Airport and Cochin, India would commence on October 28.

Speaking at a press conference in Cochin, Jennifer stated that the new route would extend the contribution, made by national carrier Maldivian, to the country's tourism sector. She added that the new service would facilitate easier access to Maldives for Indian tourists.

Maldivian, the national carrier, announced in July that efforts to establish three weekly transfers between the two locations were underway.

According to Maldivian, the flights between Cochin and Male' would ease transport for locals travelling to India for medical treatment. Maldivian currently schedules flights from Hanimaadhoo to Trivandrum, India.

The airline also revealed preparations are underway to schedule flights to more cities in India.
