Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid on Tuesday arrived in Beijing, China, on his first official visit to the country since assuming office in 2018.
The foreign minister's two-day diplomatic mission is being undertaken upon the invitation of State Councillor and Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi.
Minister Shahid is scheduled to call on Minister Wang Yi and Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan to discuss the enhancement of bilateral relations between China and Maldives.
Furthermore, Minister Shahid will meet Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) D. J Pandian and President of Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) Li Daosong.
The Foreign Ministry had previously affirmed China's important role in Maldives' development, assuring that Maldives would continue 'One-China' policies and sustain member status in the 'Belt and Road Initiative', China's global development strategy.
Minister Shahid is accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Foreign Secretary Dr Ali Naseer Mohamed, Director of Communications Miuvaan Mohamed and Assistant Director Maryam Bassama Farooq.
