Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) on late Tuesday launched a special operation with arms, coinciding with the ongoing Maldives Police Service operation.
While the Police operation is to investigate addresses and persons as part of the presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances' probe, MNDF has yet to disclose any details about their operations with arms.
According to Police, law enforcement and security would be strengthened throughout the duration of their special operations launched in capital city Male' and Addu City.
Husnu al-Suood, the president of the Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances, disclosed certain details in a . draft report compiling evidence uncovered in the Commission's investigation into enforced disappearance of Maldives Independent journalist Ahmed Rilwan.
Included amongst the divulged details are the identities of certain individuals that the Commission alleges as being involved in the crime.
The summary of the report further elaborated on the commission's findings, which Suood had disclosed in a press conference.
According to the report, evidence indicated that Rilwan was murdered, and that it was orchestrated as a result of a clash between liberals and an extremist group, the latter reportedly being an affiliate of the militant multi-national extremist organisation, al-Qaeda.
Suood had further revealed how religious extremists were active in Maldives, and stated that the Commission had uncovered the identities and businesses of these radicalised individuals.
