Maldives Customs Service seized 1.089 kilograms of narcotics worth an estimated value of MVR 3.8 million, being smuggled into the country.

According to the authorities, the woman, identified as a Brazilian national, was arrested following her arrival on September 1.

Customs discovered 70 capsules on the woman's person upon inspection for suspicious behaviour.

Preliminary tests cleared positive for cocaine - a psychotropic compound derived from the coca plant.

Both the drugs and the woman are now under Maldives Police Service's custody.

Customs seized 24.78 kilograms of illegal substances to date, within the year.
