MWSC to develop water, sewerage systems for 4 islands

The Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure, on Wednesday, contracted Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) to develop water and sewerage systems in four islands.

MWSC was allocated 22 months to establish systems in Goidhoo, Baa Atoll, Kinilhas, Raa Atoll, Kudafari, Noonu Atoll and Maalhendhoo, Noonu Atoll.

The agreement was signed by Director General of the Planning Ministry Shana Faarooq and MWSC Managing Director Adam Azim.

As per the planning ministry, MWSC will design, establish and connect residences in respective islands to the water and sewerage system. A reverse osmosis plant and strategic tanks will also be established.

A budget of over MVR 46 million was allotted for the project in Goidhoo while more than MVR 36 million will be spent on establishing a water and sewerage system in Kinolhas. The projects in Kudafari and Maalhendhoo are allocated sums of more than MVR 38 million and MVR 42 million respectively.
