The Judicial Service Commission (JSC), on Tuesday, finalised the decision to submit a motion to the parliament to dismiss Supreme Court Judge Abdulla Didi.

The investigative committee established by JSC to probe Judge Didi's corruption allegations against had previously advised the judicial watchdog to pursue his dismissal after a public trial on June 20.

According to the statement released by JSC, the commission had decided to act in accordance with the investigative committee's recommendation after considering Judge Didi's formal reply to his allegations.

A judge can only be removed from his or her position if the parliament rules to do so in response to a JSC submission. The only judge dismissed by the parliament as a disciplinary matter till date is Magistrate Ibrahim Rasheed from the court of Thinadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

Serious allegations have been raised against Didi, including taking bribes to influence the sentences of an individual implicated in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) embezzlement case. The judge is also accused of releasing a suspect in the case concerning the disappearance of journalist Ahmed Rilwan.

JSC ordered the suspension of Judge Abdulla Didi on June 12 citing ongoing police investigations. However, the Supreme Court issued a stay order on JSC's suspension the following day. The commission subsequently rejected the court's stay order and maintained that the suspension was in effect.

Judge Didi was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2018. He previously served in the Criminal Court and the High Court.
