President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Friday called to save the Amazon rainforest.
The recent increased fire Amazon, the worlds largest rainforest has been burning since August, 15, Thursday according to Brazil's National Institute for Space Research (INPE).
In his tweet, President Solih noted the vulnerable nature of Maldives' climate and called on the world to protect the forest.
Since INPE started in 2019, there have been 72,843 fires reported in Brazil, with over half of them in the Amazon region.
The institute further stated that there has been an 80 percent increase in deforestation this year compared to 2018.
