Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) on Wednesday night refuted rumours that Velana International Airport (VIA) was on alert over an alleged explosive.

An official of MACL asserted that all airport operations were proceeding normally, and that the police conducted a routine check.

The company also allayed concerns raised over the delayed landing of a flight scheduled to arrive at 2115 hours, explaining that the delay was caused by air traffic.

"There are no problems afoot. All operations are proceeding smoothy," said the official.
