Customs seize narcotics worth MVR 1 million

Maldives Customs Service, on Friday, seized 1.52 kilograms of narcotics worth an estimated value of MVR 1 million, being smuggled into the country.

Customs officers discovered the narcotics inside the luggage of a 25-year-old Maldivian.

According to the institution, the man was arrested after he arrived from Sri Lanka. The substances tested positive for heroin.

The man is now under Maldives Police Service's custody.

Police recently seized 149 kg of drugs buried in Hulhuvaarulu, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll and intercepted an Iranian drug trafficking vessel loaded with over 50 kg of narcotics.
