Local e-commerce giant 'Everything Red' on Monday launched an online platform that enables locals to book doctors' appointments from prominent hospitals in Maldives and neighbouring Sri Lanka.

The online platform 'doc.mv' already allows locals to book and pay for doctors appointments online from 11 prominent hospitals in Sri Lanka which includes Asiri Hospital, Nawaloka Hospital, Durdens Hospital, Ninewells and Union Hospital.

"We are still talking to Maldivian hospitals and clinics. We are confident that several local health care providers will join this platform in the next few weeks," Everything Red CEO Mohamed Rifau told reporters on Monday.

Locals using 'doc.mv' launched in collaboration with 'doc.lk' operators INOVA and Digital Health would not be required to pay any additional charges to book appointments from doctors in Sri Lanka.

In addition to the website, the iPhone and Android mobile phone applications would enable users to find doctors' information, duty schedule and follow hospital queue numbers.

The platform also provides doctors to upload patient records and obtain opinions of other doctors in relation to patients.

Rifau noted the significance of bringing health care service to the digital age, especially in an island nation. In addition to Maldivians, the platform would prove extremely useful for tourists which would ease access to heath care, Rifau added.

"By this digital health service, we are taking health care to another level. This will be really useful and easy for the many people with limited access to health care in the Maldives," Rifau explained.
