Prosecutor General’s Office forwarded charges against man who allegedly harassed a woman in the streets of capital city Male’, to the Criminal Court.
A spokesperson from the PG Office stated that 56-year-old Abdul Ghanee Ismail was arrested under clause 615 of the Penal Code, with counts of using explicit language, alleged notoriety, tailing a specific person in public and attempting to commit sexual acts.
A video circulating on social media of the incident that took place in June prompted the arrest of Ghanee, who is purportedly known to harass women in the streets of Male’.
According to the woman who posted the video on Twitter, he followed her on his motorcycle from ADK Hospital to Scoop, a local café on Chandhanee Magu, speaking profanities.
The video showed the man recording with his phone while on his motorcycle.
The victim expressed concern regarding bystanders ignoring the matter as it took place.
