Indian tourists double within a year

Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) statistics indicate that the number of Indian tourist arrivals have increased by double, compared to the same period in 2018.

According to MMA statistics, 66,265 Indian tourists visited Maldives by the end of May 2019. Only 33,734 visited in May 2018.

Ministry of Tourism and Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) are working towards increasing Indian tourist arrivals.

Previously, MMPRC held a roadshow in India under the title ‘Journey to the Sunny Side’.

Additionally, Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed, called on Indian television and movie stars to further endorse Maldives.

The largest market to visit Maldives up till May were Chinese tourists, with 116,282 guests. Most visitors were from Italy and India. A total of 71,334 Italian tourists visited during the time period.

Statistics from the ministry show that 749,114 tourists visited Maldives until May 2019.
