7,000 reported cases of viral fever in June: HPA

There were over 7,000 cases of viral fever in the month of June, announced Health Protection Agency (HPA).

According to HPA's statistics released last Sunday, there were total 7,129 cases of viral fever last month, which was higher than the statistics for June 2018.

The highest numbers of reported cases were from the atolls of Vaavu, Alif Dhaalu and Meemu, with a ratio of 1,000 out of 10,000 people contracting the fever in Vaavu.

HPA also released statistics on cases of dengue, common cold and diarrhoea for last month. The most number of cases was for diarrhoea with 1,711, while there were 1,274 cases of the common cold and 33 cases of dengue.

Dengue was most widespread in Dhaalu Atoll with 60 cases.

Meanwhile, state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in capital Male' City recently opened a temporary flu clinic due to the upsurge in colds and fevers.
