Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim revealed that the party's electoral ticket will be given for national-level elections through primaries.

While speaking at a ceremony held to welcome new members to the party, Qasim stated that changes were brought to the functioning of JP, under which the council decided that if more than one candidate came forth, an election will be held within the party.

"In a competitive environment, if more than one candidate wants to compete, unlike before we want everything to be decided through a primary".

Qasim also revealed that this decision was made during JP's most recent council meeting.

He went on to say that more changes will be brought to the party, and those will be revealed to the media soon.

"With this, before the end of this year, we believe we will travel to all parts of Maldives to increase party membership".

Until this announcement, candidates for national-level elections are chosen by the party leadership.
